Abstract:

Deregulation, decentralization, privatization and liberalization are common phenomena as today’s neoliberal globalization in a world, which engulfed (permeated) every aspect of society development. Some theoretical and methodological approaches to neoliberal post-modern urban development expressed by critical geography and sociology direction representatives have been outlined in the article. Arising from the modern city alliances between administration and business, the predominance of economic interests over social concerns and nontransparent management of the large-scale urban development projects implementation result in socio-spatial fragmentation of the city space. The main objective of such urban planning is global city branding to generate rent from real estate developments and radically detach the urban planning from social development. Various aspects of city planning and development in neoliberal globalized world based on case studies for Kyiv and Dubai will be reviewed in the following publication.
