Abstract:

Consideration of methodical approaches to population territorial identity study in terms of social geography is caused by the need to systematize existing knowledge and create the optimal procedures for comprehensive research of territorial identity. The paper proposes an integrated classification of methodical approaches, as well as certain methods and techniques for territorial identity study, depending on the specific subject of the study, namely, territorial identity as a mentally-geographic phenomenon; its specific manifestations in the socio-cultural environment (markers); historical-geographical conditions of its development, as well as territorial identity itself at the historical stages of its development. The cartographic presentation method of the territorial identity research results has also been described. Recommendations on how to use individual methods and their combinations depending on research objectives and specifics of the researched geographical area have been justified. The feasibility of integrated application of the presented methods for comprehensive and profound study of the population territorial identity in the region has been stressed.
