Abstract:

On the territory of Ukraine there is a danger of local earthquakes and severe sub crustal earthquakes in Vrancha zone (Romania). Institute of Geophysics of Ukraine NAS carries out studies on structure and dynamics of Earth’s interior, development of quantitative methods for determining the actual seismic hazard characteristics necessary to protect the population and the economy from earthquakes. Results of the research were used in the government regulations development in the area of seismology and earthquake-resistant construction when determining earthquake-resistance of housing, nuclear power stations, hydroelectric stations and other important facilities.

Key words:
earthquake, seismic hazard, general and detailed seismic zoning, seismic micro zoning, design accelerograms, seismic resistance
