On the basis of the developed methodology of assessment of integral potential of territory and its components it is considered the potential of development of individual urban settlements – the centres of socio-economic activity. The assessment of the integral potential consists in determination of total possibilities of a city development; it is calculated as arithmetic mean of components of the integral potential. The potential of development of such centres is analysed by the example of natural- economic region Kyivske Prydniprovia. Taking into account the size and ratio of the most important components of the development potential the main types of cities within the region have been defined.
