Abstract:

Its is well known fact, that science has no borders. Using such collocations as ‘new’ geography and ‘Ukrainian realities’, authors attempted to focus attention on difficulties in geography development under the conditions of fundamental changes in social development goals and ways of running economic activities. Authors are concerned about decline in the level of geography influence on different areas of human activity and with that in mind review defining properties of geographic science by presenting special methods of its construction (objective, subjective and problematic). The weakness of geography could be explained by the absence of knowledge refined to the laws of natural science. At the same time the geographer, using geographic logic, is the one who creates particular, custom made typical relationships matrix taking in consideration today’s transformational processes. Special attention is drawn to the wide gap between scientific and educational geographies. Examples of some findings based on the ‘new’ geography implementation in Ukraine have been presented.
