Abstract: 

The focus of the article is on the scientific status of the “quality of life” category in geography. The fundamental difference between its content and its evaluation methodology in geography and in other sciences is being substantiated. The structural dynamics of the seven integrated indices which characterize the quality of life on the regional level in Ukraine are being analyzed: the index of economic development, the index of social economy orientation, the index of socio-demographic situation favorability, the index of infrastructure and housing development provision, the index of environmental favorability, the economy resource intensity and public utilities index and socio-cultural development favorability index. In 2011 6 types of regions based on the population quality of life Ukraine were distinguished. Their comparison with 2005 reflects both the uneven changes in quality of life during this period in different regions, as well as some similarities between them. Regions grouping according to the intensity in quality of life changes for the years 2005-2011 has been made. Despite the higher position of the majority of areas on a number of indicators and related indices, there is a serious imbalance between the two, different indifferent types of regions. Its minimization remains the strategic objective of each region and Ukraine as a whole development.
