In recent years, there has been a discussion of the problems of training cartographers in higher education institutions in Ukraine. The main problem is the catastrophic decrease in students majoring in cartography. This was preceded by the accumulation of a number of problems, which were considered in this publication. Problem 1— changing the list of branches of knowledge and excluding cartography from this list. Problem 2—a small number of educational programs in higher education institutions that train cartographers. Problem 3—imperfect legislation, which excluded cartographers from work in the field of topographic-geodetic and cartographic activities. Problem 4—Postgraduate/Doctoral studies, scientific schools—their absence will nullify scientific research in the field of cartography. This is not a complete list of problems, but even those mentioned require a quick response and correction.
